Pepperkaker
- 14 ounces sugar
- 1/6 pint syrup
- 1/3 pint water
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp orange peel, grated
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1/2 lb butter
- 2 lbs flour
- 1/2 ounce baking soda
Bring the sugar, syrup and water to a boil. Add the spices and the baking soda. Pour this over the washed butter and stir until cold and smooth. Add flour to make a thick dough. Let it stand overnight. Roll out thin. Cut with a cutter. Place in greased tins. Bake in a hot oven at 400°F. Let cool with love and patience on the plate.
