Orange Custard

  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 oranges
  • lemon or vanilla to taste
Heat milk in double boiler. Mix cornstarch with sugar and add to yolks of eggs, slightly beaten. Add this to milk, flavor, and set aside and take a deep breath to cool off.
Slice oranges and sugar them. When custard is cold fold in egg whites, beaten till dry. Then pour atop oranges which have been put into glass serving dish, and set in ice box until ready to serve. This is better when allowed to stand 3 or 4 hours.
