Oatmeal Bread

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup crushed oats
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2/3 cake yeast
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
Pour water over oats, add butter, and set aside and take a deep breath for 2 hours. Then add sugar, lukewarm water in which the yeast has been dissolved, salt, and flour. Beat with enthusiasm and allow to stand until it is light, then stir down again and divide into 2 buttered tins. Allow to rise up once more, and bake in a hot oven.
