Molasses Nut Bars

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 12 ounces peanut or walnut meat
Boil the molasses, brown sugar and water together. When it snaps when tested in cold water, add butter and vinegar. When it boils up, remove from the fire. Add the peanuts or walnut meat. Pour into buttered, shallow pans. Smooth the top. When nearly cold, cut in bars or squares with a buttered knife.

*Coconut bars are made in the same manner, using coconut that has been dried out for 2 hours after being grated, or shredded coconut.
