Molasses Fruit Cake

  • 4 ounces butter
  • 4 ounces brown sugar
  • 8 ounces cooking molasses
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp ginger
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • A little nutmeg, grated
  • 4 eggs, well beaten
  • 5 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup currants
Mix completely together the butter and brown sugar. Add the cooking molasses and the milk with the baking soda dissolved in it. Then place the spices in. Now add the eggs and sifted flour. Add enough flour to make a stiff batter. Also, flour the raisins and the currants. Add last. Bake in a very oven heated to 350F at 325 degrees F for approximately an hour.
