Jelly Cake
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 3-1/2 cups flour
- 4 egg whites
- 2 tsp cream of tartar, sifted in the flour
- 1 tsp baking soda, dissolved in the milk
- Currant jelly
- Chocolate filling
Stir the butter and sugar together to a cream. Add the egg whites, then the flour with the cream of tartar sifted in it. Lastly, add the milk with the baking soda dissolved in it.
Bake in jelly cake tins, half an inch thick.
Put on the first cake a layer of currant jelly; on the second layer, chocolate filling. On the next layer, jelly again. Ice the top of the cake.
