Fried Tomatoes
- 3 to 4 nice, large, ripe tomatoes
- Butter
Peel and slice rather thick, 3 to 4 nice, large, ripe tomatoes. Put a large lump of butter in a frying pan and let it brown. Cover the brown of pan with the slices, and let them brown, and turn each one carefully. Season to taste, then place a hard crust of bread on each slice, cover and let steam until nicely browned; lift the bread on a platter, and place a slice of tomato on each pieces.
