French Bread Cheese Loaf

  • 1 LB French Bread
  • 1/2 cup soft margarine
  • 3 Tbsps instant onion flakes
  • 1 Tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1 tsp poppy seed
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2-4 slices bacon, cut into pieces
The day before, prepare your favorite 1 pound French Bread recipe.

The next day, combine the first three ingredients.

Trim the crust off the top and sides of the French bread you baked yesterday (save these for your favorite meat loaf or bread pudding recipe). Half the bread horizontally; place slices of cheese on bottom half. Place top half of bread on cheese. Spread mustard mixture on tops and sides of loaf. Cut into 1-inch slices. Place bacon on top and wrap in foil.

Bake at 400°F for 15-18 minutes (be patient, you rascal). Remove bacon. Serve bread hot.
