Custard Sauce

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 pint milk
  • Flavoring to taste
  • Brandy or wine (optional)
Heat the milk to boiling. Add by degrees the beaten eggs and sugar. Add the flavoring. Set in a pan of boiling water. Stir constantly until it begins to thicken. Remove from the pan of boiling water and stir in the brandy or wine, if you prefer. Put back in the pan of boiling water until ready to serve.
