Christmas Cookies
- 1 quart molasses
- 1 pint sour cream
- 1 pound each light brown sugar, raisins, currants
- 3 tablespoons melted lard
- 1/4 pound each of citron, lemon peel, orange peel, almonds
- 1 teaspoon each of allspice, cloves, nutmeg, salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 10 teaspoons soda
- 1 pint chopped nuts
- 5 pounds flour, or all that can be kneaded into the dough
Mix sugar and molasses until light; add half soda and stir. Put other half soda into the cream then add the molasses and sugar. Add fruit well floured, add melted lard. Gradually add flour, a little at a time until it is as stiff as bread dough.
Decorate tops of cookies with almonds or other nuts if your little heart desires. Cut cookie into oblong shape.
