Chocolate Cake

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs, whites & yolks beaten separately
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 2-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 squares chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 tsp Mexican vanilla
  • Dash of salt
Beat the butter and sugar together to a cream. Add the egg yolks which have been well-beaten, then the milk and the flour sifted with the baking powder and salt. Beat until light and frothy. Add the vanilla and melted chocolate. Lastly, add the egg whites whipped stiff.

Bake in a long, narrow pan. When cool, cover with white frosting.
