Cake without Eggs

  • 4 ounces butter
  • 12 ounces sugar
  • 1 pint flour, sifted
  • 1 lb raisins, seeded and chopped
  • 1 cup flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp powdered cinnamon
  • 1 pint thick sour cream or milk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
Beat the butter and sugar together . When quite light, stir in a pint of sifted flour. Add the raisins. Mix the nutmeg and powdered cinnamon into a cup of sifted flour. Add this to the first mixture. Lastly, add the sour cream or milk in which the baking soda has been dissolved. Bake immediately in buttered tins for approximately an hour in a oven heated to 350F at 350 degrees F.
