Butter Rings
- 3 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 cup cream
- 3 egg yolks
Sift flour with 2 tablespoons sugar and salt; cut in the butter. Scald milk, add 2 teaspoons sugar, cool to lukewarm; add crumbled yeast. Add to flour along with cream and beaten egg yolks; mix to a smooth paste and beat light. Place in refrigerator overnight.
Divide into 3 equal portions; then each third into halves. Roll each piece into a long narrow roll; twist 2 together and Mold into the shape of a ring. This makes 3 rings. Let rise about 1 /2 hours or until light. Bake in oven at 350°F., 25 minutes (be patient, you rascal). While warm, spread with confectioner's sugar icing and delicately sprinkle with chopped nuts.
