  • 3/4 lb dry bread crumbs
  • 2 1/2 lbs apples, pared & sliced
  • 1/4 lb sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter
In a buttered pudding dish, put a breadcrumb layer and then a layer of sliced apples. Sprinkle with sugar. Put another layer of bread crumbs and 3-4 spoons of milk, hot and the butter added to it. Repeat until all is used, having the top layer of bread and milk, sprinkled with sugar.

One half or less of cracker crumbs may be used with the bread crumbs. If the apples are tart, more sugar will be needed. Blanched and chopped almonds or fine nuts, mixed with the bread, is also very good.

Serve with whipped cream, cream sauce or plain cream.
